If there’s one thing I’ve learned in my first year of drone ownership, it’s this: the right accessories can completely transform your flying experience. Whether you’re capturing cinematic landscapes or just enjoying the thrill of flight, having the right gear on hand makes all the difference.

Just picked up the DJI Mini 4 Pro? You’re in for an incredible ride. But to truly make the most of your drone—from smoother takeoffs and safer landings to extended flight time and better footage—these essential accessories are absolute game-changers. Let’s dive into the must-haves every DJI Mini 4 Pro pilot should consider.

I’ve invested in most of these accessories from the start, and the few I don’t yet own are definitely on my must-buy list. ND (Neutral Density) filters are like sunglasses for your drone’s camera; they reduce the amount of light entering the lens, allowing you to shoot at slower shutter speeds and lower apertures. The result? Smoother motion blur and more cinematic, polished-looking video.

When flying in bright daylight, ND filters help maintain proper exposure without overexposing your shots. By switching to Pro mode, you can manually adjust your ISO settings; think of ISO as the camera’s digital sensitivity to light. When set to its lowest setting (ISO 100 or 200), and paired with the right ND filter, you’re able to preserve detail, reduce noise, and achieve that signature film-like look.

I personally use the Neewer 8-piece set, which includes six different ND strengths and two CPL (circular polarising) filters for cutting glare and reflections. A landing pad for your DJI Mini 4 Pro might not be the first accessory that comes to mind, but it’s one that makes a noticeable difference, especially when you’re flying outdoors on unpredictable terrain.

I quickly realised how tricky it can be to find a flat, clean surface for takeoff. Uneven ground, tall grass, loose sand, or gravel can easily interfere with the propellers or kick up debris during lift-off, risking damage to your drone. In the UK, your DJI Mini 4 Pro must be registered with the CAA (Civil Aviation Authority) to fly legally. That means displaying your Operator ID clearly on the drone at all times.

Having spare Operator ID stickers on hand is a smart move in case your original label gets damaged, worn, or falls off. You can easily print replacements yourself or order pre-made, regulation-compliant stickers from sites like FPV Drones.

Propeller Guards – Extra Safety for Close-Range Flying

While I don’t personally use them, propeller guards for the DJI Mini 4 Pro are highly recommended by many in the drone community, especially when flying near people or in tight spaces.

They help prevent injuries like lacerations from spinning blades and add an extra layer of safety during close-range flights. Just note: adding prop guards increases the drone’s weight, which can move it out of the C0 (A1 legacy) category, limiting where you’re allowed to fly legally in the UK.

Micro SD Cards

An essential purchase for any drone is the addition of an SD card. The DJI Mini 4 Pro has very limited built-in storage, only 2GB, so an SD card is a must. DJI recommend the Lexar high-speed cards for their drones which are available in 128GB, 256GB and 256GB storage options. Please note that only high-speed cards with a V30 or V90 write speed will work in the Mini 4 Pro to ensure 4K footage capture.

When shooting in D-Log M on the DJI Mini 4 Pro, the bitrate is typically 130 Mbps for 4K at 30fps, since D-Log M captures more colour data and dynamic range, resulting in larger files.
